The eu-funded NEXUS project features the development of an easily customizable, integrated and automated platform that enables Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) separation, purification and multivariate characterization from complex biofluids. Circulating EVs are vehicles of multiple categories of molecules (proteins, nucleic acids, glycans, lipids, metabolites) and represent an ideal source of diagnostic, prognostic and efficacy biomarkers for new generation of Liquid Biopsy assays, as well as supporting drug and custom care products development pipelines.
Protocol, components, system Design and Iteration, including the Proof-of-Concept of feasibility and performance of a “sample -in, result – out” system and Early and Continuous User Interaction
Development and Integration of od stand-alone separation and analytical modules into a compact, bench top, modular and automated Research Prototype Instrument. This will include determining mechanical, electrical and physical requirements for EV isolation and detection.
Optimisation and validation of work-flow and components, including the protocols, prototypes and reagents with the assessment of a cumulative analytical performance for plasma sEVs detection and subtyping, and consolidation of NEXUS platform performance using clinical samples from Prostate Cancer patients.
Refining the design and Fabrication of the integrated instrument, definition of tech-to-market, including the validation of Business Model and design of market-oriented Business Plan, and introduction of the product as an effective part of the commercial offer of the nascent Start-up.
